Sept 19-26, 2026
it's time to
RETREAT YOURSELF
For 7 nights and 8 days, we’ll do what the French do best -- slow down, enjoy life, and make everything feel like art.
We’ll forage the Provençal markets for the world’s prettiest produce and artisan treasures, get lost (on purpose) in tiny picturesque towns, look très chic in our vintage Citroëns, learn to cook delicious French food and perfect the art of holding a glass of wine in one hand and a hunk of chèvre in the other.
Days are slow but never boring. Evenings are filled with the kind of conversations you'll want to bottle and bring home. Every day is soaked in art, culture, inspiration, and that elusive je ne sais quoi the French do best.
Come curious, leave glowing.
This isn’t a vacation—it’s a masterclass in living well.
l'art de vivre
MEETS THE ART OF LIFE
The French call it l’art de vivre—the art of living well.
At Art of Life Creativity Retreats, we call it remembering how good life can actually feel when you ditch the day to day for a week and start saying oui to joy.
It’s not about living perfectly; it’s about living fully—lingering over long lunches, chasing the best light (from the sun, not your screen), and laughing until your rosé nearly comes out your nose.
This retreat is a delicious reminder to slow down, savor everything, and let creativity bubble up the moment you finally give yourself space to breathe.
Through curiosity, connection, and a generous pour of awe, you’ll fall back in love with your own life—one Provençal-soaked moment at a time.
"The sun was a great tranquilizer, and time passed in a haze of well-being; long, slow, almost torpid days when it was so enjoyable to be alive that nothing else mattered." --Peter Mayle, A Year in Provence
La Vie en Rose
PUT ON THOSE ROSÉ COLORED GLASSES AND JOIN US!
In Provence, everything feels a little en rose. The light hits softer, everything tastes brighter, and even the laundry fluttering from the shutters looks like art.
La vie en rose isn’t just a French song; it’s a way of seeing, slowing down, savoring the day, and realizing that the joy in life shouldn't have to be earned.
In Provence, it's also la vie en rosé: pink skies, pink drinks, and a rosy new outlook on what it means to actually slow down and savor life.
Put on those rosé colored glasses and join us for a week on this extraordinary Provence Art of Life Creativity retreat!
Yes, I want to go!
Here's a taste of
OUR WEEK IN PROVENCE
Our days in Provence are a joyful blend of art, adventure, and apéro—with generous helpings of laughter, tastings, shopping (of course!), and a few joie de vivre adventures thrown in.
We’ll kick things off in true French style: a vintage Deux Chevaux tour winding through the Luberon’s most charming villages. These candy-colored "convertibles" are pure delight on wheels—the kind of joyride that makes you wonder why you ever settled for an SUV.
Wind in your hair, lavender scent in the air, and jaw-dropping views in every direction—this is your main-character moment.
Naturally, we’ll pause for photo ops, a scoop of gelato, and perhaps an afternoon spritz (we’ll be chauffeured in our Citroëns, after all).
Wine Tastings
AND AN OLIVE MILL VISIT
Our home sits on a 120-acre vineyard complete with its own winery and some of the finest vintages in the Luberon. We’ll have a beautiful wine tasting at the on-site winery, and enjoy robust regional wines at the villa and on our adventures as well.
We’ll also visit a local olive oil mill, where you can see, smell, and taste liquid gold straight from the press, especially this harvest time of year.
Because beauty really does come from within… especially when “within” means a vineyard or an olive grove in Provence.
Cooking Class
We’ll feast on delicious Provençal fare all week long, culminating in a fabulous hands-on cooking class at our villa with our private chef (who is also a cookbook author), Monique Deyaert-Buitink of Assiettes de Monik.
Expect the scent of garlic, herbs, and laughter to fill the kitchen as we chop, stir, sip, and taste our way through the evening. Stretchy pants highly encouraged—applause optional!

Lourmarin
MARKET VISIT
As Peter Mayle has mused, there's no such thing as a non-market day in Provence. And while nearly every town in the vicinity has its own weekly market (so many to choose from),we'll explore one of the best in Lourmarin during our week. This is the favorite French farmer’s market of your dreams (you’ll probably leave with a tote full of cheese, lavender sachets, and possibly a new life philosophy). And let's be honest, those Provence table linens aren't just going to buy themselves!
Grape Stomp
OUR LUCY & ETHEL MOMENT
Get ready to channel your inner Lucy & Ethel at this delightfully cheeky night of grape stomping. We’ll ride tractors, play pétanque, laugh at our host’s French jokes, and nosh on charcuterie as we swirl and sip (already-stomped) wine.
Equal parts hilarious and heartwarming, it’s our very own Provençal harvest celebration — bare feet, big laughs, and full glasses guaranteed.
Postcard-perfect
PROVENCE VISITS
We’ll wander through some of the Luberon’s most postcard-perfect towns — each one a masterpiece of colorful shutters and café chatter drifting through the air.
Our neighbors include Gordes, Goult, Roussillon, Ménerbes, Lourmarin, Bonnieux, and Lacoste—each with its own irresistible charm (and patisserie worth “researching”).
You’ll have time to explore a few on your own and be chauffeured with us to the top spots on our itinerary. Think of it as your delightfully cinematic highlight reel of picture-perfect Provence—every turn a new scene, every village a new crush.
Morning Yoga
AT THE VILLA
Art de Vivre
+ JOIE DE VIVRE
Our retreats are built around beautiful meals and even better company — tables filled with laughter, stories, and at least one person you’ll swear you’ve known in another lifetime.
You’ll be amazed by how quickly everyone bonds over these shared feasts. Chef Nana will take extraordinary care of us, from flaky morning croissants to lazy afternoon picnics to Provençal dinners that stretch well into the night.
And, of course, there’s always time for art, journaling, iPhone photography, or unapologetic napping (a.k.a. creative rest disguised as self-care).
This isn’t just a retreat—it’s your masterpiece in the making.

signature creativity sessions
SKETCHBOOK | PHOTOGRAPHY | JOURNALING
Every Art of Life retreat includes our signature creativity workshops, where you’ll learn how to bring little moments to life through reflective journaling, travel sketchbook watercolors, and creative smartphone photography.
These sessions are fun, relaxed, and endlessly inspiring — perfect for all levels (yes, even if you haven’t picked up a paintbrush since third grade). And like everything on our retreats, they’re completely optional—no pressure, just play.
painting
& SKETCHING
You’ll travel through the paintbox of Provence — where every hilltop village, glass of wine, and golden sunset seems to beg for its own hue.
With Weatherly’s easy, joyful lessons, you’ll let the soul of this magical place spill out onto the page—no pressure, no perfectionism allowed.
No experience needed. Our painting and sketching workshops are all optional—simply a taste of creativity to capture your travels and designed to inspire, delight, and remind you how good (and easy) it feels to play in the paintbox for a change.
photography
& JOURNALING
Provence is always photogenic!
From bustling markets to sun-drenched hilltops, there’s inspiration (and perfect light) everywhere you turn.
Lizzie will show you how to use your smartphone and your journal to be more creative, curious, present, joyful, and in awe—not just here in Provence, but long after you return home.
You’ll create stunning photos (yes, with just your smart phone!) that capture your newfound love of the little things in life — and you’ll take home a fresh way of seeing your everyday world through a more artful, wonder-filled lens.
no judgment zone
CREATIVITY THAT IS ALL PLAY. ZERO PRESSURE.
We’re not here to make you feel like you’re back in art class—fumbling with charcoal or fifteen confusing camera buttons. There’s no judgment here, and you’re not allowed to judge yourself either (perfectionists and inner critics, consider this your week off).
This is about letting loose and rediscovering your creative spark—that playful, joyful part of you that gets buried under to-do lists and daily demands. Whether you’re sketching, journaling, or snapping the perfect picture (or not!), it’s all optional, all fun, all flow.
It’s creativity on your terms—zero judgment, plenty of inspiration, and (fingers crossed) your phone on do not disturb mode.
about our villa:
OUR PROVENCE HOME
Our home for the week is a dreamy Provençal farmhouse tucked into a 120-acre vineyard (yes, our neighbors are grapes), nestled between the postcard-perfect towns of Lacoste and Bonnieux.
With sweeping views and Mont Ventoux in the distance, it’s where luxury meets laid-back charm—11 bedrooms, private pool, flower-draped terraces, a private cinema room for our francophile film buffs, a tennis court for the overachievers, and plenty of lounge chairs for the rest of us who might nap while pretending to read.
The renovated winery next door produces Vin du Luberon wines (a dangerously convenient fact), and the house itself feels straight out of a French Nancy Meyers film—big kitchen for croissant and cafe au lait-fueled breakfasts, long tables for alfresco dinners, and cozy corners perfect for journaling, painting, or plotting your memoir.
chef, chauffeur,
yoga instructor, massage therapist
All you have to do is show up and exhale. We’ve got an in-house private chef (because honestly, why lift a finger when you don’t have to?), drivers to take us to vineyards and villages, a yoga teacher to keep us limber after all that cheese and wine, and a massage therapist for anyone ready to turn relaxation into an art form with an add-on massage.
From morning cappuccinos, picnics en plein air to sunset rosé, everything is handled - so you can focus on savoring, laughing, photographing, and celebrating life itself. This week, your only job is to live your very best Provence life.
This is l'art de vivre!
I definitely need this!
"Wow. You two did an amazing job making a very creative and festive retreat. We all had a wonderful time! We ate, laughed, danced, sang, wrote, drew, painted, photographed, cooked, shared and just plain LIVED. Thank you for putting together this retreat. It was such a gift!" -Pam, Art of Life retreat guest
"Thank you for one of the most magical weeks of my LIFE! Truly. I have had more inspiration and moments of joy than I have had in as long as I can remember. This is what my soul was screaming for. Here is to the next chapter of Art of Life retreats. I will be there." - Hadley
sample of our itinerary
SUBJECT TO CHANGE
- Day 1 SATURDAY:
WELCOME DINNER
Arrive at our gorgeous Provençal villa and check in around 5:00pm, just in time for our favorite French ritual — apéro hour! Sip something bubbly, unpack, unwind, and meet your soon-to-be favorite people as the golden light hits the vineyards.
At 7:30pm, we’ll gather for our Welcome Dinner, a delicious feast by our private chef featuring the best of the Luberon — think local wines, garden-fresh produce, and plenty of laughter under the terrace lights.
- Day 2 SUNDAY:
CREATIVITY, CHAPELS & PLEIN-AIR PICNIC
Ease into the rhythm of retreat life. Start your morning with yoga (8:00–9:00am) followed by breakfast (9:00–10:00am) — café au lait, flaky croissants, or whatever protein your body’s craving.
Then, from 10:30am–12:30pm, dive into our first creativity workshop, a gentle, inspiring session to wake up your artist within.
At 1:00pm, we’ll stroll through the vineyard to an ancient stone chapel for a beautiful plein-air picnic prepared by Chef Nana — complete with checkered tablecloths, Provençal specialties, and good company.
After lunch, it’s time for Le Farniente (3:30pm) — the glorious French art of doing nothing (borrowed from the Italians). Lounge by the pool, sketch in the shade, nap, wander, or simply be.
We’ll regroup at 6:30pm for apéro, followed by dinner at 7:30pm back at the villa.
-
Day 3 MONDAY:
DEUX CHEVAUX ADVENTURE DAY
Start the day with yoga (8:00–9:00am) and breakfast (9:00–10:00am), followed by a creativity workshop (10:30am–12:00pm) and Chef Nana’s lunch buffet (12:00–1:00pm) at the villa.
Then comes the fun part — at 1:15pm, our vintage Deux Chevaux Citroën chariots await! These candy-colored convertibles (with drivers, of course) will whisk us through the most picturesque corners of the Luberon:
-
The 2,000-year-old Pont Julien bridge
-
Château de Mille, where we’ll enjoy a wine tasting and architecture tour
-
A stop for gelato in the ochre-hued village of Roussillon
-
And finally, Lacoste, home to the infamous Marquis de Sade’s castle and a hillside sculpture garden with sweeping valley views
We’ll return to the villa around 6:00pm, just in time for — you guessed it — apéro at 6:30pm and a beautiful dinner prepared by Chef Nana at 7:30pm.
Day 4: TUESDAY: -
-
ARTISTIC EXCURSIONS
Start the day with a grounding yoga session (8:00–9:00am), followed by a leisurely breakfast (8:00–10:00am) prepared by Chef Nana — flaky croissants, fruit from the market, favorite proteins and strong French coffee to fuel the day ahead.
At 10am, we’ll depart for the La Coste Art & Architecture Center — a scenic drive through the Luberon countryside to the swanky town of Aix-en-Provence.
Our private two-hour guided tour (11:30–1:30pm) offers an inside look at Château La Coste’s open-air museum of contemporary art, architecture, and vineyards — a place where masterpieces by Tadao Ando, Louise Bourgeois, and Alexander Calder live side by side with olive groves and grapevines. Head to the fabulous town of Aix-en-Provence for lunch (at your own expense) and shopping/sightseeing.
We’ll return to the villa around 6:00pm for a cozy dinner at home from Chef Nana.
- Day 5 WEDNESDAY:
STUDIOS & STOMPS
Ease into the morning with yoga (8:00–9:00am), then linger over breakfast (8:00–10:00am) — fresh fruit, flaky pastries, and Nana’s Provençal specialties.
From 10:30am–12:30pm, we’ll gather for another creativity workshop, followed by a light lunch buffet (12:30–1:30pm) before we set off for an inspiring afternoon of sightseeing, shopping and artisan studio visits and laughter-filled adventures.
At 1:30pm, we’ll head to Gordes, one of France’s most picturesque hilltop villages (you’ll want your camera for this one). Our first stop: Meghan’s jewelry studio (2:00–3:00pm), where we’ll meet a local artist who turns Provence flowers into gorgeous wearable artwork. Peek behind the scenes, ask questions, and maybe even find a new treasure to take home.
Next up, a short scenic drive to a family-owned olive oil mill (3:15–5:15pm) for a tour and tasting. You’ll learn how this liquid gold is made and taste the difference between peppery, grassy, and buttery blends — like a mini sommelier course, but for olives.
Then, it’s time for one of our most unforgettable traditions: the Grape Stomp (5:30–8:30pm)!
Climb aboard a vintage tractor, ride out to the vineyard, and pick grapes in pairs — cameras ready, laughter guaranteed. This is our Lucy and Ethel moment. We’ll stomp grapes to French tunes, sip local wine, and celebrate the art of not taking ourselves too seriously.Afterward, gather for a light dinner of charcuterie boards, local wines, and maybe a few impromptu songs and games before our shuttle whisk us back to the villa around 8:45pm.
- Day 6 THURSDAY:
THE ART OF THE VINE
Ease into the day with yoga (8:00–9:00am) followed by a leisurely breakfast (8:00–10:00am).
From 10:30am–12:30pm, we’ll gather for another creativity workshop — time to play, paint, photograph, or simply let inspiration lead.
After our lunch buffet (12:30–1:30pm) prepared by our beloved Chef Nana, we’ll spend the afternoon right here at home base for a very special treat: a visit to Mas Édem Winery (2:00–3:30pm) — the working vineyard right on our property.
You’ll stroll through the vines, peek inside the cellar, and learn about winemaking during harvest season, when the air itself smells like crushed grapes and oak barrels. Then, of course, we’ll sip our way through a wine tasting that captures the spirit of Provence in every glass.
(Prefer a slower afternoon? You’re welcome to skip the tour and enjoy some free time by the pool, journal in the garden, head to a nearby adorable town or sneak in a nap.)As the sun dips lower, join our cooking workshop with Chef and cookbook author, Monik (5:30–7:00pm) — part class, part party, all delicious. You’ll chop, stir, laugh, and learn the secrets behind classic Provençal dishes before sitting down together for dinner at 7:30pm to savor our creations.
- Day 7 FRIDAY:
MARKET DAY & FAREWELL FEAST
Start the morning with breakfast (7:30–8:30am) before we set off for one of Provence’s greatest pleasures — market day in Lourmarin!
At 9:00am, we’ll head to this beloved Friday market, where stalls overflow with baskets of figs, lavender honey, handmade soaps, linen tablecloths, and every shade of Provençal charm.
From 9:30am–2:00pm, wander at your own pace — shop for treasures, snap photos of the colorful stalls, and settle into a café for a leisurely lunch on your own.
We’ll depart for the villa around 2:30pm, where you can spend the afternoon however you please — maybe a nap by the pool, a final photo walk, a few minutes in your art journal or on the tennis court and time to stuff your suitcase with all of your market finds.
As evening falls, we’ll gather for our final apéro at 6:30pm, raising a glass to the week’s adventures and new friendships, followed by our Chef’s Au Revoir Dinner at 7:00pm — a delicious celebration of all we’ve savored, seen, and shared in Provence.
- Day 8 SATURDAY:
Our last petit dejeuner (breakfast) and goodbyes!
"I knew I was going to enjoy this trip, but WOW, this whole week has far exceeded my dreams and expectations. Spending time with old friends and new ones, this was truly a trip of a lifetime. Thank you for putting it all together and executing it to a tee. I am a very happy girl." -- Karen
about
Provence
“When the Good Lord begins to doubt the world, he remembers that he created Provence.” – Frédéric Mistral
Luberon Valley
Tucked between the Alps and the Rhône Valley, the Luberon is the dreamscape that Peter Mayle wrote about—rolling vineyards, stone villages, and that just-right golden light photographers and painters can’t get enough of.
The region stretches across a string of hilltop towns—Bonnieux, Ménerbes, Roussillon, Gordes, and Lacoste—each with its own charm, market day, and irresistible bakery (mais oui!).
Once a quiet farming hub, it’s now a haven for artists, writers, foodies, and anyone ready to trade chaos for connection (looking at you).
In the fall, grapevines turn to gold, fireplaces crackle, leaves crunch, and long lunches stretch lazily into cozy evenings.
It’s Provence at its most real—earthy, elegant, and just rebellious enough to remind you that slow living isn’t a trend here—it’s a way of life.
Lacoste &
BONNIEUX
Perched high in the Luberon, Lacoste feels like stepping straight into a painting—tiny in size but grand in stories. At the top of its cobblestone streets sits the château once owned by the infamous Marquis de Sade, whose scandalous escapades still make the townspeople blush.
In 2001, the crumbling château found new life under fashion designer Pierre Cardin, who transformed it into a stage for avant-garde art, opera, and imagination.
Today, Lacoste is more serene than scandalous, with SCAD art students tucked into studios and views that could tempt anyone to pick up a paintbrush.
Just down the hill lies Bonnieux—Lacoste’s equally charming neighbor—lined with cafés, boutiques, and bakeries that will make you rethink moderation.
Our villa sits between the two towns, perfectly placed for quietly soaking in that quintessential Provençal charm.
"This week has been above & beyond. Such a beautiful, picturesque setting and experiences I will remember forever. And to have you both guide us and impart wonderful words and share your knowledge has all been icing on top." - Amie
your hosts:
WEATHERLY & LIZZIE
Weatherly
STROH
Weatherly Stroh is a full-time artist, lifelong equestrian, traveler, dog-lover, and adventurer who’s made it her mission to explore the world and paint its beauty.
Since 2011, she’s been living her dream as a professional painter, her creative journey inspired by the places she’s wandered — and occasionally gotten lost in.
She’s always dreamed of painting in Provence—the charming towns, the produce that looks like still-life art, and the unapologetically slow pace of life all call to her painter’s soul.
Her French, however, is less masterpiece and more work in progress. She’s fluent in “croissant,” “fromage,” and "repetez-s’il vous plaît,” but every other French word she learned mysteriously turned Italian after high school.
Still, she’s beyond thrilled to share her love of travel, scenery, food and life with our retreat guests in this unforgettable (and highly paintable) corner of the world.
Lizzie
LAROCK
Lizzie Larock is a writer, photographer, and positive psychology-based coach who teaches people how to snap out of autopilot and start living like they mean it. She’s worked with everyone from CEOs and lawyers to wild adolescents and skeptical accountants—proving that creativity isn’t just for “artsy” people. (Yes, even you with the spreadsheet.)
Her fine art photography has been featured in galleries—even though she shoots almost everything on her iPhone, which is either wildly impressive or mildly infuriating to anyone lugging around a big fancy camera (don’t worry, she has those too). Through her signature Life Feast mashup of curiosity, awe, mindfulness, and photography, Lizzie helps people see the world—and their own lives—through a whole new lens.
Her love affair with France began during her junior semester abroad in Aix-en-Provence, back in 1994, where she fell hard for the light, the language, and possibly a baker in a band (no further questions, s’il vous plaît). That didn't last, but her love of France certainly did! She even minored in French, though she’s still brushing up on it after “a few” years of linguistic neglect.
With a grandfather who lived in France for 40 years, a love of all things French was basically a family requirement for Lizzie—not that it was a hard sell.
Lizzie can’t wait to return to Provence to savor the light, the language and every baguette she can find. She’ll likely be crouching on the cobblestones at some point getting the perfect photo, or convincing you that your camera roll is your secret creative superpower.
Weatherly and Lizzie have been close friends for over 40 years.
Weatherly has always been taller and Lizzie has always been louder, but we've shared a deep friendship along with a mutual love of art, creativity, travel and a hilarious history of tweenage and teenage shenanigans. Don't ask us about the Guns 'n Roses Toledo Speedway incident in 1991... or our comical incidents trying to park in Tuscany in 2023 or that hilarious tubing (thanks Captain Julian!) on our retreat in Croatia in 2025.
We started Art of Life Creativity Retreats because we firmly believe that filling your creative cup is way more fun when it's happening in a gorgeous place, surrounded by kindred spirits—new, old, and the ones you just met but already want to be in a lifelong travel and creativity cult with!
Yesss! Sign me up!What an amazing week! I’m not sure what I was expecting but it was just a wonderful experience. A beautiful spot that I will remember for a long time. I’ve met just wonderful people. I’ve learned (and laughed a lot) from drawing, talking about color and playing pool - all outside my comfort zone, but so much fun. And, most importantly, I’ve been appreciating the tiny details in life - people, food (!), and everything else. Thank you! --Heather R

"5 stars! Would highly recommend!
I have had so much fun, laughed so hard, and I learned so much about the world and myself. I made new friends, learned how to tap back into my creative self that's been long dormant and was welcomed with such warmth.
I can now paint in gouache, curse in another language and know how to look for 3 good things in everyday life. And I can't wait for your next retreat." - Sue (Sue has been on 5 of our retreats and has already booked her 6th!)
